Confederation Cup: Wydad Sink Nairobi United in Group opener
Wydad Casablanca kicked off their CAF Confederation Cup group stage with a 3–0 win over debutants Nairobi United at Stade Mohammed V on Sunday.
The hosts struck almost immediately, with Ayoub Boucheta finishing a well-worked move inside the opening three minutes to set the tone.
Mohamed Bouchouari also arrived late in the box to guide in a second, giving the Moroccans a strong lead at half-time.
Nairobi United looked livelier after the restart and made several substitutions to support the search for a breakthrough.
Despite that improvement, they found it difficult to test the Wydad defence and grew increasingly frustrated as the minutes wore on.
Wydad eventually wrapped things up in the 86th minute, with Mohamed Rayhi coming off the bench to clip in the third after a clever setup from Walid Sabbar.
The result sends Wydad to the top of Group B on goal difference, edging ahead of AS Maniema Union, who earlier claimed a 2–0 win over Azam FC.
Elsewhere, Zamalek secured a narrow 1–0 victory over ZESCO United, while Group A saw USM Alger outscore San Pedro 3-2 in a lively Confederation Cup encounter.
