Zambia’s U-17 women’s team will face Canada in a newly confirmed international friendly as part of their final build-up to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba revealed that the Copper Princesses will take on the North Americans on 12 October in Casablanca, Morocco.

The fixture adds to two previously announced matches against Cameroon (9 October) and Colombia (14 October).

“The girls have three high-quality friendlies lined up; Cameroon, Canada, and Colombia,” Mweemba told FAZ Media. “These matches are part of our plan to give them the best possible preparation for the World Cup.”

The Copper Princesses are already en route to Casablanca for a 14-day training camp.

The friendly triple-header will form the core of their final preparations.

Mweemba stressed that FAZ remains fully committed to the team’s success.

“We’ve been working on these friendlies for months. Our job is to make sure everything is in place. The players must now rise to the occasion,” he said.

This year marks Zambia’s third appearance at the global showpiece. Their second consecutive qualification, underlining their growing presence in women’s youth football.

The Copper Princesses open their World Cup campaign on 19 October against Paraguay at the Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 3) in Salé.

They then meet Japan on 22 October at the same venue before wrapping up the group stage against New Zealand on 25 October at Pitch 2.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, and Mweemba believes Zambia can go far.

“The girls know what’s at stake. The nation is behind them, and we’re confident they’ll make us proud,” he added.
