PSG Closing In on Barcelonas Rising Star Dro Fernández

PSG Poised to Complete Transfer of Barcelona Rising Star Dro Fernández

Paris Saint-Germain is in the final stages of negotiating the transfer of Dro Fernández, a highly-rated talent from Barcelona’s youth academy, according to sources.

Negotiations Underway

After further discussions on Saturday between the reigning European champions and the 18-year-old midfielder’s representative, who also represents PSG’s manager Luis Enrique, an agreement has been reached in principle for a deal lasting until 2030. Only a few minor details remain to be finalized.

Key Details

  • PSG will activate the €6 million ($7 million) release clause to secure one of the most exciting midfield prospects around.
  • Fernández has made five appearances for Barcelona’s first team this season but ultimately decided that leaving the club he joined as a child was the best step for his career.

Reports indicated that Barcelona was caught off guard when Fernández expressed his intention to depart this January by activating his release clause.

Barcelona’s Expectations Shift

Barcelona had anticipated that Fernández would renew his contract following his 18th birthday this week, which would have allowed them to increase the release clause to a higher amount.

In addition, Borussia Dortmund has also shown significant interest in acquiring Fernández.

European clubs, particularly in Germany and England, have been monitoring the promising attacking midfielder for several years, with teams like Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Chelsea displaying interest in him previously.

The Pull of PSG

However, former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who had a conversation with Fernández, persuaded him to choose PSG for this switch.

PSG is actively seeking new midfield additions and sees Fernández as an excellent prospect due to both his talent and the attractive release clause.

This marks the second occasion that the Parisians have successfully drawn a talent from Barcelona’s La Masia, the first being Xavi Simons in 2019.
