Habib Beye: Marseille Unlikely to Hold Back in Absence of Mason Greenwood
Marseille’s Approach to Monaco Match: No Defensive Mindset, Says Beye
Marseille’s coach, Habib Beye, has stated that his team will not adopt a defensive posture when they face Monaco, as they aim to enhance their chances of securing a spot in the Champions League.
Injury Woes and Competition
Mason Greenwood will be absent for the match against Monaco, a team that has recently surged with six consecutive league victories, placing them sixth in the standings. If Monaco triumphs on Sunday, they will match Marseille’s points total.
Monaco has also excelled at home, winning their last four matches, but Beye is determined for his team to assert themselves against their confident opponents.
Beye’s Strategy and Team Performance
“We possess the ability to challenge Monaco, and we need to demonstrate that on the field,” Beye remarked. “It’s essential that we don’t head into this match intending to defend for the entirety of the game.”
He expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s recent displays, stressing the need for greater technical precision and consistency. “Our attacking runs need to be more menacing; I want my players to be a constant threat to the opposition.”
Marseille is looking to bounce back after suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Lille just before the international break. A victory would ensure they maintain a top-three position in the league.
Rethinking Player Dependence
With Greenwood sidelined due to injury and suspension, Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri might get the nod to start in his stead. Beye emphasized the need for the team to be less dependent on specific players: “While we can’t solely count on Mason or Igor [Paixão], Ethan is an extraordinary talent who must adapt to the Ligue 1’s intensity.”
“Although he seems the natural replacement for Mason, we also have the flexibility to modify our tactics as needed,” he added.
