Former Liverpool star Carvalho wants January move as Leeds and Sunderland prepare bids

Fabio Carvalho Considers Exit from Brentford in January

Former Liverpool forward Fabio Carvalho is contemplating a transfer away from Brentford during the upcoming January transfer window, as new reports emerge.

Limited Opportunities Since Transfer

After his transfer from Liverpool valued at £27.5 million last year, Carvalho has only made three starts in 19 Premier League games under previous manager Thomas Frank. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury cut his season short.

So far this season, the 23-year-old player has featured in seven matches, with two of those appearances in the EFL Cup against Aston Villa and Bournemouth. Over the summer, he turned down a potential move to Lyon, deciding instead to remain at Brentford and compete for his position under the current manager, Keith Andrews. However, playing time has been scarce.

Potential Moves and Interests

According to reports, clubs such as Sunderland and Leeds United are looking to make a move for Carvalho, who, as stated by journalist Florian Plettenburg, is eager to secure more playing time elsewhere.

“Understand Fábio Carvalho could leave Brentford on loan in the winter to gain more playing time. A return to the Bundesliga is a concrete option for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder. He has played only 96 minutes in the Premier League,” noted Plettenburg.

Carvalho has not been included in Brentford’s starting lineup since the season’s opening weekend and has remained an unused substitute in the last two Premier League matches.

Timing and Suitability of a Transfer

Sunderland faces the impending absence of three forwards due to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the coming months. Meanwhile, Leeds United’s current attacking struggles might be alleviated with a player of Carvalho’s caliber. Given the circumstances, it’s likely that Carvalho will seek a move away from Brentford in January, and he should have various options to explore.
