Dembélé and Chevalier Set to Miss Clash Against Athletic for PSG
PSG’s Dembélé and Chevalier to Miss UCL Match Against Athletic Club
Key Absences for PSG
Ousmane Dembélé, who recently received the Ballon d’Or, and goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier will not participate in Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming match with Athletic Club in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Player Conditions
The club reported that Dembélé is unwell, while Chevalier is still in the process of recovering from an injury to his right ankle.
This is a continuation of injury troubles for Dembélé, who had only recently returned from a left calf strain against Tottenham Hotspur at the end of November, making just two Ligue 1 appearances since then. Prior to that, he had missed several weeks due to a right hamstring injury, which he sustained while playing for France in September.
Additional Player Updates
PSG will also be without right back Achraf Hakimi, who is dealing with a sprained left ankle and is racing against time to get fit before the Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco starting December 21. On a positive note, Désiré Doué is set to rejoin the squad after recovering from a muscle strain in his right thigh.
With Chevalier absent, Matvei Safonov is likely to take the goalkeeping role. Chevalier’s injury occurred during a match against AS Monaco on November 29 due to a severe tackle from Lamine Camara.
Current Standing
PSG, the reigning Champions League titleholders, is currently positioned second in the league phase after five matches, trailing leaders Arsenal by three points.
