Vincent Aboubakar has confirmed his move to Azerbaijani club Neftçi Baku, ending months of speculation about his future.
The Cameroonian striker, who has been without a club, decided to relaunch his career in the Azerbaijan Premier League after several weeks of negotiations.
Talks between Aboubakar and Neftçi had stalled due to salary disagreements, but both sides have now reached a deal.
At 33, Aboubakar brings vast experience to his new team.
The captain of the Indomitable Lions remains one of Africa’s most respected forwards, known for his leadership and consistent goal-scoring ability.
According to journalist Ali Aydin, Aboubakar will sign a one-year contract with an option for a second season.
His market value currently stands at €1.2 million, according to Transfermarkt. The deal gives him a chance to regain form and add strength to Neftçi Baku’s attack.
Before finalising the agreement, Aboubakar drew interest from Iran’s Esteghlal FC and Persepolis.
However, he chose Neftçi as the right environment to continue competing at a high level while mentoring younger players.
The striker previously shone in Europe with Porto and Beşiktaş, earning a reputation as a decisive forward in crucial matches.
His arrival is expected to boost Neftçi’s ambitions both domestically and in continental competitions.
Aboubakar’s move marks another milestone in a career defined by resilience and determination.
After leading Cameroon through major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations, he now seeks new challenges in a growing football market.
Fans await the official announcement, which will confirm one of the most notable transfers involving an African player this season.
