Tribute from Henderson after Scoring First League Goal in Four Years

A Heartfelt Dedication

Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson commemorated his late former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota after netting a goal in a recent draw against Leeds. This marked Henderson’s first league goal in four years since his time with Liverpool.

Memories with Jota

Henderson and Jota shared the pitch for 77 matches, a partnership cut short tragically when Jota lost his life in a car accident at the age of 28 last July, alongside his brother Andre Silva. To honor Jota, Henderson mirrored the iconic celebration of Jota during the match at Gtech Community Stadium—sitting down and pretending to play a video game. This celebration was a nod to both their shared experiences and fond memories.

His last Premier League goal came back in December 2021 during a commanding 4-1 victory over rivals Everton, a match in which Jota also contributed on the scoresheet.

Henderson reflected on the emotional complexity of the moment, saying, “It was his birthday recently. We will never forget him. We always remember him forever. I can only imagine what the lads at Liverpool are going through. He was a good friend, and, like I said, I don’t score many goals, so I thought I would dedicate it to him.”

The Match Details

The draw against Leeds saw Henderson take the lead with a low shot that deflected off Leeds defender Jaka Bijol but was ultimately equalized by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header.

Henderson became Brentford’s oldest scorer in the Premier League at 35 years and 180 days, showcasing his enduring talent and experience.

Henderson’s Shift to Brentford

After leaving Liverpool in July 2023 to play at Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League and then moving to Ajax in early 2024, Henderson returned to England following the early termination of his contract with Ajax, signing with Brentford.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews praised Henderson, highlighting his invaluable experience and influence within the team. “Jordan’s experience and knowledge of the game are second to none. He has been an impactful player for us.”

Henderson’s poignant tribute to Jota underlines both the personal and professional bonds forged in football, reminding fans and players alike of the fleeting nature of life and the enduring impact of friendship.
