Ancelotti Confirms He Did Not Advise Endrick to Depart Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti Addresses Endrick’s Future Amid Transfer Speculation
Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has clarified that he did not instruct Endrick to leave Real Madrid to secure a spot in the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
Endrick’s Proposed Loan to Lyon
The 19-year-old forward is reportedly set to finalize a loan move to Lyon in January, as confirmed by ESPN Brasil. Discussions have already taken place between Endrick and Lyon’s new manager, Paulo Fonseca. The agreement, which has been in place for about two weeks, involves Lyon covering half of Endrick’s salary.
Endrick has struggled for first-team opportunities at Madrid, having only played 11 minutes this season.
Ancelotti’s Remarks on Endrick’s Situation
“Endrick is a crucial player and represents significant talent from Brazilian football,” Ancelotti stated in an interview with Diario AS.
He emphasized, “We are assessing his development. However, it’s false that I suggested he should leave Real Madrid to participate in the World Cup. That is a matter for the club and the player to discuss, and he needs to make the best choice for himself and Madrid.”
Having joined Madrid shortly after turning 18 in July 2024, Endrick had a promising start, netting seven goals in 37 matches during his debut season. However, since Xabi Alonso took over coaching duties at the club after Ancelotti’s exit in May, Endrick’s opportunities have dwindled, significantly affecting his prospects of being selected for the World Cup.
After making his debut for Brazil in November 2023, Endrick has been excluded from the national squad for four consecutive international matches.
Importance of Playing Time
Earlier this week, Ancelotti emphasized the need for Endrick to “return to playing regularly and demonstrate his talents.”
“Yes, I had a conversation with him at the season’s outset,” Ancelotti remarked to Placar. “He was coming back from an injury and is now ready to play. It’s crucial for him to determine what is best for his career with his team and the club.”
Ancelotti further noted, “Endrick is still very young, and this won’t be his only opportunity for a World Cup. He is capable of participating in the 2026 tournament, but he could also play in 2030, 2034, or even 2038. The priority now is for him to get back on the field and showcase his abilities.”
