Zamalek’s struggles in the Egyptian Premier League continued on Thursday evening, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by NBE Club at the Cairo International Stadium, extending their winless streak to four matches.
The visitors took a surprise lead in the 30th minute when Osama Faysal converted a penalty after being brought down by Mohamed Ismail inside the area.
Faysal confidently sent goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi the wrong way to give NBE Club a deserved advantage.
But the lead didn’t last long. Just three minutes later, Angola forward Chico Banza pounced on a loose ball and smashed it into the top corner, restoring parity for Zamalek.
Despite dominating possession after the equaliser, Juan Bezerra came closest to finding a winner for Zamalek while Nasser missed a late opportunity to seal the comeback.
The result means Zamalek stay fourth on the table with 19 points, trailing Ceramica Cleopatra by four.
Meanwhile, NBE Club’s solid showing sees them climb to ninth with 15 points.
For Zamalek, the draw adds to mounting frustration as they continue their search for consistency.
Their next opportunity to bounce back comes on Sunday against Talaea El-Geish.
