Sunderland Defender Zak Johnson Heads to York City on Loan

Loan Agreement Details

Sunderland’s young talent, Zak Johnson, has officially transferred to York City on a loan basis. This arrangement will keep him with the National League team until January 4, 2026.

Johnson’s Previous Experience

The 20-year-old defender recently completed a loan spell at Notts County, competing in the Sky Bet League Two during the latter stages of the 2024-25 season.

Manager’s Statement

Sunderland’s academy manager, Robin Nicholls, commented: “This loan provides Zak with an excellent chance to gain further experience in senior football.” He added, “Having played with teams like Hartlepool, Dundalk, and most recently Notts County, this move will allow him to continue demonstrating his skills at a competitive standard. We are excited to keep a close eye on his progress in the National League.”
