Xavi’s Tenure Comes to an End

Recently, Xavi’s management role at Barcelona concluded after three seasons.

High Expectations and Initial Success

While addressing a group of students, Xavi shared his insights:

My journey with the team started amidst immense expectations for both the players and the organization. We were coming off a period where success was scarce, and I realize now that I made a mistake by trying to maintain those elevated standards for longer than was feasible.

He recounted the team’s achievements early in his tenure, stating:

Upon my arrival, we secured the league title and the Super Cup. However, I later recognized that I had to engage in some self-reflection: “What went wrong?”

Struggling to Maintain Standards

Xavi reflected on how he allowed those high expectations to slip:

I had reduced the intensity of those standards, which led to a shift in the players’ mindset. The commitment, respect, and dedication began to wane. By my final season, this decline meant we finished without any trophies.

Learning from this experience, Xavi concluded:

I gained valuable lessons from this journey. Self-criticism was necessary.
