Xavi Reveals Barcelona’s Attempt to Sign Luis Diaz from Porto

Barcelona’s Interest in Diaz

Former manager of Barcelona, Xavi, disclosed that the club made an effort to recruit Luis Diaz when he was still playing for Porto. Although Diaz eventually transferred to Liverpool, Xavi confirmed that Barcelona made a move prior to Liverpool’s interest in him.

Subsequent Attempts and Challenges

After the initial attempt, Barcelona tried once more before Diaz’s transfer to Bayern Munich, but were unable to come to an agreement with Liverpool.

Xavi shared in an interview with Gol Caracol:
“The financial circumstances were challenging for us at that moment. He is a world-class player, capable of making significant impacts—a winger with exceptional speed, known for scoring and assisting, and he also puts in a strong work ethic.”
