Xabi Alonso Sets Sights on Real Madrid Securing Victory by End of 2025
Alonso’s Struggles: A Rough Patch for Real
Alonso’s squad initially enjoyed a comfortable lead at the top of the standings, boasting a five-point advantage. However, their momentum shifted dramatically in November, with the team drawing three consecutive league matches before unexpectedly losing to Celta Vigo at home earlier this month. This downturn has allowed defending champions Barcelona to overtake them, now leading the title race by four points.
Recent Improvements
Real Madrid has begun to show signs of recovery with two victories in their last three league fixtures. Despite this recent improvement, Alonso finds himself under scrutiny due to the team’s inconsistent performances and is keen to end the year on a high note.
“We aim to conclude this phase positively; it’s been a challenging time for us. Our goal is to start 2026 strong,” Alonso expressed to the media on Friday.
The manager acknowledged the challenges posed by upcoming opponents, highlighting their aggressive play style and individual duels. “The teams we face are formidable; they excel in one-on-one situations and are skilled with the ball. We want our fans to enjoy the game,” he remarked.
When discussing his rapport with the club’s management, Alonso reassured that their relationship remains strong, even amidst the heightened expectations to replicate the success seen in the 2023/24 season, when the team clinched both the La Liga title and the Champions League trophy.
“From the beginning, we’ve fostered a constructive relationship based on mutual respect and warmth. While the pressures are significant, it is a lengthy journey that will include both highs and lows,” he stated.
Vinicius’s Goal Drought
Real Madrid’s recent challenges have highlighted a prolonged goal drought for forward Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian, who netted 22 goals last season, has found the back of the net only five times this campaign and has not scored since October.
At 25, Vinicius has gone through 16 consecutive matches without scoring for either club or country. Nevertheless, he contributed by assisting Rodrygo in securing a critical victory against Alaves on Sunday.
Alonso remains optimistic about Vinicius’s potential to return to form. “We’ve talked to him, and we’re working on it—it’s only a matter of time. He’s been close to scoring, and I believe he will rebound soon, hopefully as early as tomorrow,” the manager concluded.
