Stephen Constantine Returns as Coach of Rwanda’s Men’s Team
Overview
Stephen Constantine, an English football manager, has been reappointed as the head coach of Rwanda’s national team. He has signed a two-year contract and is set to officially start his new role on March 16th, after leaving his job with Cypriot club APEA Akrotiri.
Previous Experience
Constantine previously managed the Rwandan team from May 2014 until January 2015 before transitioning to a coaching position in India. The Rwanda Football Federation expressed confidence in his leadership skills and technical knowledge, highlighting that he will be instrumental in furthering the country’s football aspirations.
Originally from London, Constantine has a diverse coaching background, having led several national teams in different regions. His managerial career includes stints with teams from Nepal, Malawi, Sudan, and Pakistan, showcasing his rich experience across various football cultures.
Current Standing and Goals
Rwanda is currently ranked 130th in the FIFA world rankings and is striving to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This upcoming campaign represents their second attempt at qualifying since their inaugural participation in 2004.
Constantine’s first game back in charge will be against Grenada in Kigali, as part of the friendly FIFA Series tournament.
