Wolves Chairman Shi Discusses Why Edwards is the Ideal Selection
Rob Edwards Takes the Helm at Molineux
Wolves’ chairman, Jeff Shi, has expressed his strong belief that Rob Edwards will be an excellent fit as the manager of the team. Edwards’ appointment was formally announced on Wednesday.
Shi’s Endorsement of Edwards
Shi commented on Edwards’ contract, which extends until 2028, stating,
I am familiar with him and have witnessed his development throughout his career. He has demonstrated his capabilities across various roles. He is a good individual who understands the club, the city, and the fanbase, and he possesses significant talent.
A Track Record of Growth
Shi added,
During his time as a youth coach, he displayed impressive tactical knowledge, but it was in his subsequent roles leading first teams that he began to establish his unique style, character, and leadership. Rob will introduce fresh ideas to our club, and I believe we possess a solid foundation to create a cohesive environment — where every team member collaborates with the first team to enhance performance, and with him on board, we now have the groundwork to make it happen.
Embracing Change for Future Success
Shi also expressed the need for a strategic overhaul, saying,
I believe it’s time for the club to reset. In the past, we have attempted to revitalize previous models, but I feel that now we need a comprehensive refresh of our philosophy. This shift is impossible without a new coach to infuse the team with his vision and ideas. Since the takeover in 2016, we have approached a new phase, and Rob will play a vital role in this transition.
Edwards’ Return to Molineux
Edwards comes back to Molineux not only as a former player but also as a previous academy coach.
A Familiar Face with Valuable Experience
Shi recalled,
Nine years ago, Rob made significant contributions to Paul Lambert’s squad and even managed the first team for two matches. We aimed to integrate him into the first team after Nuno’s arrival, but it didn’t materialize at the time. I have always recognized his coaching talent from the very beginning of his youth coaching days. He spent several years away from us, excelling in different positions, and sometimes fate has its own plans. His reunion with us brings me great joy, as it’s not often that we have an old friend step up as a leader for the club, beginning a new chapter for everyone involved.
