Wilshere Reveals Conversation with Arteta Prior to Accepting Luton Position

Wilshere admits Arteta chat before taking Luton job

Jack Wilshere Discusses His Transition to Management at Luton Town

Jack Wilshere has revealed that he had conversations with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta prior to accepting the managerial position at Luton Town.

New Role for Wilshere

Appointed as the new head coach of the League One team on Monday, this marks Wilshere’s debut in senior management.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder previously managed the Arsenal U18 team for two years before departing last year to join Norwich City’s staff.

Insights from Arteta

“I asked Mikel when he realized he was ready for such a role,” Wilshere shared. “He told me, ‘You just need to dive in and give it your all.'”

He acknowledged that Arteta had successfully navigated a challenging situation when he took on the Arsenal job, recalling a similar atmosphere when he began his coaching journey. “It’s certainly a different challenge, but when Mikel came onboard, it wasn’t an easy time at Arsenal, and the fans were uncertain about the direction.”

Connection to Luton Town

Wilshere’s ties to Luton Town run deep. He was originally signed by Arsenal as a youth player coming from Luton.

Reflecting on his past experiences, he mentioned, “Nathan Jones graciously invited me back to train in 2021 before Luton’s promotion to the Premier League. I enjoyed every moment of it, which is perhaps what sparked my interest in coaching.”

He continued, “The intensity that Nathan infused on the training ground was something I wanted to be part of; however, my body had other plans. It led me to realize that I couldn’t compete at the level I desired and would have to look at alternate paths.”

Wilshere expressed a newfound passion for coaching, saying, “I’ve truly discovered a hunger for it. The more involved I become, the more motivated I am to improve and explore new ideas in the field.”
