Vitor Pereira Joins Nottingham Forest as New Head Coach at City Ground

Vitor Pereira Appointed Nottingham Forest Manager Until Next Season

New Beginnings at the City Ground

Vitor Pereira has officially taken on the role of head coach at Nottingham Forest, signing a contract that will keep him in charge until the conclusion of the next season. His primary goal is to steer the club clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Pereira, who is 57 years old, replaces Sean Dyche, who was released from his position early Thursday morning. Forest has yet to confirm Pereira’s hiring, but it marks his return to English football following his departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers in November, where he spent 11 months.

Currently, Nottingham Forest sits in 17th place in the league, just three points above the relegation zone, and has only managed two victories in their last ten matches. Pereira will become the club’s fourth manager for the season, following Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and Dyche since September.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

The decision to dismiss Dyche came after a lackluster goalless draw against bottom-placed Wolves on Wednesday. Pereira’s appointment arises amid a challenging season for Forest, with the team unable to gain a significant advantage over relegation.

Previously, Pereira enjoyed a successful spell at Wolves, winning 14 out of the 38 matches he presided over and successfully helping the team avoid relegation last season. His familiarity with Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, from their time together at Olympiacos, where Pereira won the Greek title and cup in 2014-15, likely contributed to his selection.

Pereira joined Wolves in December 2024, but was relieved of his duties three months later when the team only managed to earn two points from their first ten league fixtures.

Managerial Journey

Pereira’s managerial career began in 2004 with Portuguese side Sanjoanense, and over the years, he has held positions in Germany, China, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia, now ready to embark on his 15th managerial role.

His first challenge at Nottingham Forest will be in a Europa League knockout match against his former team, Fenerbahce, in Turkey on Thursday. This will be followed by a Premier League clash against Liverpool on February 22. Forest hopes that Pereira’s experience and previous successes can ignite a turnaround in their fortunes.
