Black Starlets Prepare for Crucial Semi-Final Against Nigeria

Coach’s Optimism Precedes Showdown

The head coach of the Black Starlets, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, is feeling hopeful as his team gears up for their semi-final match against Nigeria at the WAFU Zone B U17 Boys Championship taking place in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

This exciting match is set for Tuesday evening at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium. It will not only determine who advances to the final but will also grant the winning team an automatic qualification to the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to be held in Morocco next year.

Team’s Readiness

Speaking to the press just a day before the crucial encounter, Dr. Ogum conveyed confidence in his players’ mental state and readiness. “We feel good. Everyone is okay, and the team spirit is exceptionally high. The boys are confident, and each individual is prepared to deliver a performance that will secure our place in Morocco for the AFCON,” he stated.

Despite a challenging start in the tournament, which included a draw against Togo and a loss to Ivory Coast, the Black Starlets managed to recover by defeating Niger 3-1, thus earning their spot in the semi-finals. Dr. Ogum acknowledged that the team had made several mistakes in their earlier matches but assured that they have addressed these issues.

Focus on Improvement

“We have recognized the errors we made in our earlier games through detailed video analysis, and we have worked on those aspects. We expect to see improvements in our defensive organization, especially compared to what was displayed in previous matches,” he elaborated.

As the rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria intensifies the stakes, the Starlets aim to rise to the occasion and secure Ghana’s position at the upcoming continental youth tournament.
