Victor Boniface has been declared fit to feature for Werder Bremen in their Bundesliga encounter with St. Pauli this weekend, easing concerns over his condition.
The Nigerian striker had sat out Thursday’s group training after picking up a knock earlier in the week, but Bremen staff confirmed his absence was only precautionary.
Head coach Horst Steffen revealed the forward will rejoin full training on Friday and should be available for selection.
The news is a major boost for Bremen, who have been battling an extensive injury list that includes Mitchell Weiser, Maximilian Wöber, Olivier Deman, and first-choice goalkeeper Mio Backhaus.
Boniface, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, has made only substitute appearances so far against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Freiburg, and Bayern Munich.
However, his fitness now increases his chances of earning more minutes for a team still searching for attacking consistency.
In Nigeria, his situation is being closely monitored as the 24-year-old remains a candidate for the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho in October, after being left out of the September squad.
