VfB Stuttgart Reveals New Club Motto and Logo Changes

Changes to Historic Slogan

The Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart has decided to abandon its longstanding motto “Furchtlos und treu” (“Fearless and loyal/true”). This slogan, which has historical ties to the Kingdom of Württemberg, served as a tribute to the region of which Stuttgart is the largest city, a title it has held for centuries. The expression was originally adopted by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg in the early 1800s as a symbol of strength and loyalty.

New Motto Highlights Modern Aspirations

Stuttgart has selected a new motto, “Zusammen voran” (“forward together”), reflecting both its geographical heritage and honoring its youthful generation, famously known as the “Junge Wilden” (“Young Wild Ones”), who rose to fame by winning the Bundesliga championship in the 2006/07 season. However, like many traditional German phrases, the old slogan had been misappropriated by the Nazis over time.

Logo Redesign and Visual Updates

Accompanying the new motto will be notable updates to the club’s logo. The redesign will feature a contemporary font, the club’s founding year of 1893, and a distinctive rocking horse graphic as part of the rebranding effort.

“VfB Stuttgart has been at the heart of the community since 1893,” emphasized Alexander Wehrle, CEO of Stuttgart, in an official club announcement. “We are committed to embodying VfB’s deep-rooted presence in both the city and the region with a bold vision for the future. Our determination to progress together has always been integral to our club, and we aim to express this more vigorously moving forward.”

Consistency in Club Identity

Despite the changes to the club motto and logo, the team’s crest, colors, and recognizable red-striped kits will remain unchanged. Writers and journalists, as well as residents within the historically unified German state of Baden-Württemberg, will continue to refer to both the local population and the football club using the term “Württemberger.”
