Jamie Vardy Signs with Serie A Club Cremonese
Leicester City icon Jamie Vardy was officially introduced at a lively signing event with his new club, Cremonese, yesterday.
The retired England forward has agreed to a one-year contract with the Italian team after departing from Leicester City during the summer transfer window.
Addressing Skepticism
During the press conference, a local journalist expressed doubts: “In Italy, players nearing 40 often face skepticism regarding their motivation and fitness. What do you say to those who doubt your abilities?”
Vardy confidently replied, “I’ll have to show you I can prove you wrong. Age is merely a number. As long as my legs continue to feel as good as they do now, I will keep playing. Currently, there are no indications that I’m slowing down, so I will give my best for this club.”
Meanwhile, Vardy also shared his thoughts about the move: “Initially, there were discussions about the transfer, and entering a new country is challenging. It’s essential to converse with my wife, children, and loved ones, as this is a significant transition. Fortunately, thanks to technology, I had a Zoom call with the manager.”
He added, “We talked for 45 minutes to an hour. His passion for the club and his ambition to advance really struck a chord with me. As a player, it’s incredibly fulfilling to feel valued.”
Making the Transition Work
Vardy further explained, “The situation will be different until my children can join me here. The plus side is that they don’t have school on weekends, so we’ve started looking at matches that they’re excited to attend.”
He continued, “Not seeing them is temporary; it’s likely just for a week at a time. Thanks to FaceTime, I can still say goodnight every night and call them before I head to training or they go to school.”
“Overall, things are fine. My wife has been supportive and is here with me now. We both miss the kids, but it’s not permanent, and they will be here soon.”
