Valverde Celebrates Athletic Bilbaos Success for the Community After Victory Over Atalanta

Athletic Triumphs in Bergamo

Goals from Guruzeta, Serrano, and Navarro Lead the Way

Athletic Club celebrated a resounding victory in Bergamo, with pivotal goals scored by Gorka Guruzeta, Nico Serrano, and Robert Navarro.

Valverde’s Post-Match Reflections

Following the match, a pleased Ernesto Valverde commented, “The first half showed that we weren’t performing at our peak. Our goal was to keep the game open for the second half.”

“We made necessary adjustments after halftime, which proved effective. Securing this victory is a tremendous joy for the club, our players, and the supporters. It gives us renewed hope for our upcoming match at San Mamés.”

Valverde emphasized the importance of capitalizing on opportunities in their forthcoming league fixtures, stating, “Our approach remains consistent; today, we achieved the effectiveness we missed in our last match. The outcomes are ultimately determined in the critical areas of the pitch, which is our focus. With significant league challenges looming, starting this Saturday, we hope this victory empowers us.”

Champions League Journey Valued

Although Athletic Club will not advance to the knockout stages, Valverde expressed his appreciation for the team’s Champions League campaign.

He remarked, “Our experience in the Champions League has been remarkable, especially considering the caliber of teams we’ve confronted. Borussia Dortmund dominated us during the first half of that match, and we faced stiff competition from PSG and Arsenal.”

“I view our journey as exceptional, particularly when compared to our league performance, which I cannot rate the same way. While I don’t have high hopes of clinching the Champions League title, we’ll certainly give it our all (laughs).”
