USFAS Bamako launched their CAF Women’s Champions League campaign with a 2–1 comeback victory over Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto at the Right to Dream Stadium in Cairo.
The Malians trailed 1–0 at halftime after Ana María Nchama’s strike in the 42nd minute.
However, they responded in the second half as Maimouna Traoré’s influence was felt immediately, earning a penalty that Awa Diarra converted in the 69th minute to level the score.
Diarra then secured the win with a powerful finish from outside the box in the 82nd minute, completing a confident turnaround for the Malian side.
For 15 de Agosto, who topped the UNIFFAC qualifying zone, the defeat was a bitter disappointment, with a promising first half undone by lapses in the latter stages.
In another opening-day fixture, Egyptian side FC Masar held Moroccan giants AS FAR to a goalless draw in Ismailia.
Goalkeeper Habiba Sabry stood out with several crucial saves, helping Masar earn a valuable point.
