Unveiling Chelseas Rejection of a £2 Million Semenyo Six Years Ago
Chelsea’s Previous Interest in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo Uncovered
Chelsea expressed interest in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo six years ago, recent reports indicate.
January Transfer Window Opportunity
The Ghanaian forward has the option to depart Bournemouth during the initial two weeks of January for a predetermined fee of £65 million, thanks to a buyout clause included in his contract.
A Missed Opportunity in 2019
According to talkSPORT, Chelsea had the opportunity to secure Semenyo in 2019 for a modest fee of £2 million.
At that time, Semenyo was performing well during his loan spell at Newport County in League Two, having been loaned out from Bristol City.
Impressed by his talent, Chelsea scouts put forth a bid of £1 million to Bristol City, which was rejected. The club was later informed that Semenyo could be acquired for £2 million but opted against submitting an enhanced offer.
Eventually, Bristol City sold Semenyo to Bournemouth in January 2023 for £10 million.
