Uganda Keep Faith in Paul Put with 2028 Contract Extension

Uganda have put an end to speculation over the future of head coach Paul Put by extending his contract until 2028, just a month before the Cranes kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed the renewal in Kampala, emphasizing stability and long-term planning ahead of a critical two-year cycle that also includes AFCON 2027, which Uganda will co-host.

The contract covers not only the senior national team but also the CHAN squad and the U23s, with Put responsible for overall strategy, player selection, and technical direction.

FUFA CEO Edgar Watson acknowledged the recent speculation surrounding the coach, stating: “We have noticed a lot of anxiety in some sectors of the public recently.

“Rumours and speculations concerning the Head Coach of the Uganda Cranes. I am here and delighted to announce to you that FUFA has agreed with Coach Paul Put to a new contract as the Head Coach of the Uganda Cranes for the next two and a half years starting with immediate effect.”

Put, who took charge in 2023, expressed pride in the extension and reaffirmed his commitment to Uganda’s goals:

“For the extension of the contract I can say that I am very happy and I am proud because when I signed for the first time the President asked me to build a strong team for 2027.”

Uganda now enter the 2025 AFCON confident of stability in the dugout and a clear path toward building for the 2027 tournament on home soil.
