U20 World Cup: Nigeria edge Saudi Arabia in five goal thriller

Nigeria claimed a crucial 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia in a thrilling Group F encounter at the Estadio Fiscal de Talca, in Talca, Chile, to revive their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the 2025 U20 World Cup.
The Flying Eagles made a perfect start when Salihu Nasiru found the net in the 10th minute, finishing off a sharp pass from Sani Suleiman.
Saudi Arabia responded in the 21st minute as Amar Hamed Al Yuhaybi capitalised on a defensive lapse to level the score.
Nigeria regained control before the break, with Amos Ochoche restoring their lead in the 38th minute after a well-placed assist from Nasiru, sending them into half-time 2-1 up.
Saudi Arabia showed resilience after the restart and equalised once more in the 59th minute through Talaj Abubacr Haji, who slotted home from Mohamed Ali Barnawi’s clever delivery.
The intensity rose as both teams pushed for a decisive goal, and the match seemed destined for a draw.
However, deep into stoppage time, Nigeria won a crucial penalty after sustained pressure inside the Saudi box.
Daniel Bameyia stepped up with composure and converted in the 90th minute to secure a dramatic win for the African side.
The victory handed Nigeria their first three points of the tournament, keeping their qualification hopes alive as they prepare to face Colombia in their final group match.
Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, slumped to a second straight defeat and now face an uphill battle to progress to the round of 16.
