TP Mazembe reignited their CAF Women’s Champions League campaign with an emphatic 3-0 triumph over Gaborone United on Wednesday evening at the Right to Dream Stadium in Cairo.

The result came as a strong response to their opening-day loss to ASEC Mimosas.

Mazembe broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Kagaelebane Mohlakoana converted from Rosemary Adesina’s clever assist with a precise low strike.

Captain Marlène Yav Kasaj made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after sustained pressure on the Gaborone defence.

In stoppage time, Elena Nkuandum added a third, calmly finishing in the 90+3 minute to seal a comfortable victory for the Congolese giants.

The win keeps Mazembe firmly in contention for a spot in the knockout phase as Group B remains open heading into the final round of games.

In the group’s other fixture, ASEC Mimosas fought back to draw 1-1 with Tanzania’s JKT Queens on Tuesday.

Ester Maseke gave the Tanzanians an early lead in the eighth minute, but ASEC found a late equaliser through Erika Gnounoue in the 82nd minute.

The draw leaves ASEC on top of Group B with four points, followed by Mazembe on three, while JKT Queens sit third with two.

Gaborone United remain at the bottom with a point.

Up next, ASEC face Gaborone United on Saturday, while Mazembe meet JKT Queens in what promises to be a decisive encounter for a place in the semifinals.
