Tottenham Winger Wilson Odobert Set for Surgery Following ACL Rupture
Wilson Odobert of Tottenham to Undergo ACL Surgery
Injury Announcement
Tottenham Hotspur’s winger, Wilson Odobert, is set to have surgery after suffering a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. The club confirmed this news.
The 21-year-old French player sustained the injury in the first half of Tottenham’s 2-1 home defeat against Newcastle United on Tuesday.
Surgery and Rehabilitation
According to a statement from Tottenham Hotspur, Odobert will consult with a specialist next week prior to undergoing the surgical procedure. After that, he will begin his rehabilitation process with the team’s medical staff.
Ongoing Injury Challenges
This injury marks yet another setback in a series of long-term injury issues for Tottenham, which is currently looking for a new manager following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.
Earlier in January, the team lost key players including forwards Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison, midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall, and defender Ben Davies due to significant injuries.
Playmaker James Maddison has also been sidelined since suffering a ruptured ACL in August.
Player Background
Wilson Odobert joined Tottenham from Burnley in 2024, with the transfer fee reported to be around £25 million. This season, he has participated in 33 matches for the club, starting in 10 Premier League games and appearing in six of the eight Champions League group-stage matches.
Currently, Tottenham sits 16th in the Premier League, just five points away from the relegation zone, following a poor run of form that led to Frank’s termination after eight months in charge.
