Premier League: Notable Summer Signings Making an Impact

As we approach the midpoint of the Premier League season, there have been several standout players contributing significantly to their teams’ performances.

Numerous athletes have excelled since making their moves from the Bundesliga last summer. Here’s a look at four notable individuals who have made a strong impression so far.

Granit Xhaka – Bayer Leverkusen to Sunderland

The Swiss midfielder made a surprise comeback to the Premier League with Sunderland, a team freshly promoted to the top tier.

Xhaka, previously a key player for Bayer Leverkusen, decided to take on a new challenge by joining the Black Cats, and he has proven to be invaluable.

Servicing as Sunderland’s captain, Xhaka has been their standout player. He boasts a 63 percent success rate in duels, averaging two tackles, three clearances, and four recoveries per match. Additionally, he has contributed five vital goal assists.

His efforts have played a crucial role in keeping Sunderland sixth on the league table with 27 points. With their current form, they appear set to avoid relegation and may even qualify for European competitions.

Nick Woltemade – Stuttgart to Newcastle United

Initially, Woltemade was low on Newcastle’s list of targets last summer. After falling short in attempts to recruit Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, they signed Woltemade, who had netted just 12 goals in the Bundesliga the previous season.

Skepticism surrounded his club-record signing of £69 million, yet the German striker has emerged as a capable successor to Alexander Isak, who transferred to Liverpool.

Aside from a misfortune with an own goal during the Tyne-Wear derby, Woltemade has performed admirably for Eddie Howe’s squad. He has tallied 10 goals and provided two assists across all competitions, making him a substantial asset as the Magpies pursue Champions League qualification and potential trophies.

Hugo Ekitike – Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool

The French forward opted to join Liverpool from Eintracht, rejecting overtures from Newcastle and Manchester United.

Initially, there were concerns that he might play second fiddle to Isak after the latter’s last-minute arrival, but recent months have shown otherwise.

At 23 years old, Ekitike has scored 11 goals and notched one assist in 24 games. He has excelled in front of goal recently, registering five goals in his last three appearances.

With Isak sidelined for several months due to an ankle injury, Ekitike is now set to play a pivotal role as Liverpool aim to climb the table. Currently, the Reds are close behind Chelsea and have favorable upcoming matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United, providing a strong chance to regain a Champions League spot.

Anton Stach – Hoffenheim to Leeds United

Last summer, the 27-year-old midfielder joined Leeds United for £17 million as the club returned to the Premier League from Hoffenheim.

Despite being relatively under the radar, Stach has emerged as one of Leeds’ top players, consistently proving himself in the midfield.

He has scored three goals and assisted two in 15 league matches. Averaging nearly two key passes each game, his defensive skills are just as impressive.

Stach has also averaged over four duels won, with four recoveries and 1.4 tackles per game for Leeds. He has formed a strong duo with captain Ethan Ampadu in a newly adopted 3-5-2 formation.

Maintaining his fitness will be vital for Leeds as they seek to avoid the relegation zone, currently sitting six points clear of 18th-placed West Ham United.
