Thiago Silva Completes Transfer to FC Porto

Thiago Silva Returns to FC Porto

Thiago Silva has rejoined Porto, marking his return to Invicta after his time with the club’s B team in 2005 during his initial venture into European football.

On Saturday, FC Porto officially announced that Thiago Silva has re-signed with the club. The Brazilian defender has inked a deal that runs until 2026, with the possibility of an extra year, as per reports from Flashscore.

Hello to all Porto supporters! I am thrilled to announce my return to the Dragons. You can’t imagine how grateful and excited I am for this chance. I am highly motivated and eager to contribute to the team in every way I can. I want to extend my thanks to our president, André Villas-Boas, for this opportunity, and our coach, Francesco Farioli. I am very much looking forward to donning these colors once more. Your support means a lot to me, and I can’t wait to see you at the Dragão,” said Silva in his introductory video.

The experienced defender is set to bolster a Porto backline that has been lacking Nehuén Pérez due to injury since the season began. Silva will vie for a starting position alongside Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior, and Dominik Prpic, with Kiwior also capable of playing as a left-back, a role currently unfilled with Zaidu away participating in AFCON.

Although Silva won’t be eligible for registration before January 1, he is expected to make his debut on matchday 17 when FC Porto visits the Azores to take on Santa Clara.

Thiago Silva, who will wear the number 3 jersey for FC Porto, is anticipated to arrive in Invicta in early January after celebrating Christmas and New Year’s with his family in Brazil.

## A Return to Roots

Now a free agent after concluding his tenure with Fluminense, Thiago Silva is marking his return to the club where he first began his journey in European football. In the 2004/05 season, he played for FC Porto’s B team, but unfortunately, his time was cut short due to a tuberculosis diagnosis, preventing him from establishing a foothold and leading to a transfer to Dynamo Moscow.

Silva’s real breakout in Europe came in 2009 when he joined AC Milan. He also had successful stints with PSG and Chelsea, where he celebrated winning the Champions League at Estádio do Dragão. Afterward, he returned to Brazil to represent Fluminense, making 66 appearances for the club in the last two seasons.

At 41 years old, he has earned 113 caps for Brazil and aspires to compete in the 2026 World Cup, which would mark his fifth appearance in the tournament following stints in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.
