Sony Ten is an Indian pay TV sports network owned by Sony Pictures Sports Networks. It broadcasts cricket, association football, golf, basketball, tennis, MMA and wrestling events. It was launched in 1 April 2002. Sony Pictures Networks acquired the channels from Zee Entertainment.
History
In Jan­u­ary 2001, Taj Tele­vi­sion was es­tab­lished in Dubai Media City. The com­pany launched Ten Sports on 1 April 2002 In 2005, Zee En­ter­tain­ment En­ter­prises launched Zee Sports as their 24-hour sports broad­cast­ing net­work. Later, in No­vem­ber 2006, Zee ac­quired Taj Tele­vi­sion as a sub­sidiary. Zee Sports was re­branded to Ten Ac­tion in 2010, which fea­tured ad­ven­tures sports and non-cricket con­tent such as ten­nis and foot­ball. Twelve also launched a sep­a­rate feed for Pakistan.

In Au­gust 2016, Zee’s CEO Sub­ash Chan­dra an­nounced that the com­pany was ne­go­ti­at­ing with Sony Pic­tures Net­works to sell its sports chan­nel bou­quet. The agree­ment was signed in Sep­tem­ber 2016 and the ac­qui­si­tion was planned to be two-phased. With the com­ple­tion of the first phase of the pur­chase, Sony ex­panded its In­dian sports net­work to 9 chan­nels. With the com­ple­tion of sec­ond phase, Sony gained ac­cess to sports chan­nels owned by Zee out­side India. On 18 July 2017, the chan­nels were re­branded under the Sony um­brella with the “Sony” brand at­tached as a pre­fix on the sports chan­nels, in ad­di­tion with the launch of the HD simulcasts.
