Ghana’s Tariq Lamptey Ruled Out Of October World Cup Qualifiers After ACL Injury

Ghana have been dealt a major blow ahead of their October World Cup qualifiers, with defender Tariq Lamptey ruled out due to a knee injury.

Ghana have been dealt a major blow ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October.

Defender Tariq Lamptey will miss the games against Central African Republic and Comoros due to a knee injury.

The Fiorentina full-back was forced off during his side’s Serie A clash against Como on September 21, after landing awkwardly while chasing the ball.

Initial scans confirmed an isolated tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The 24-year-old has successfully undergone surgery in Rome.

“ACF Fiorentina announces that the player Tariq Lamptey has undergone, starting on Monday, September 22nd, a series of clinical and instrumental tests, both static and dynamic, to establish a diagnosis following the injury he sustained during the Fiorentina-Como match on Sunday, September 21st,” the club confirmed in a statement.

“Given the complex clinical situation, a diagnostic arthroscopy was performed this morning by Professor Mariani. The surgery revealed an isolated tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“The type of injury, however, required anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery which was a complete success. The player will return to Florence in the next few hours to begin his planned rehabilitation program,”

Tariq Lamptey is expected to be sidelined for at least four months.
