Tanzania Sack Coach Hemed Suleiman Weeks Before Afcon Kick-Off
Tanzania have dismissed national team coach Hemed Suleiman less than a month before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) confirmed the decision in a statement, revealing that both sides had agreed to part ways.
Argentine manager Miguel Gamondi will take over on an interim basis to guide the Taifa Stars through the tournament, which begins on December 21.
“The Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) has terminated head coach Hemed Suleiman’s contract by mutual consent,” the statement read.
Suleiman, who is a native of Zanzibar, stepped into the role after Adel Amrouche was dismissed during the 2024 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Under his leadership, Tanzania secured qualification for their fourth appearance at the continental showpiece and reached the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) earlier this year.
However, the Taifa Stars fell short in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, finishing behind Morocco and Niger.
Tanzania will face a stern test in Group C at AFCON, drawn against Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda.
Their opening match comes against the Super Eagles on December 23.
