Aston Villa Targeting Tammy Abraham from Besiktas
Villa on the verge of sealing deal for Abraham
Aston Villa is set to finalize an £18 million agreement for Tammy Abraham, the striker currently playing for Besiktas.
Abraham, aged 28, is anticipated to conclude the move to Villa Park this weekend after arriving in the UK. He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Saturday.
His transfer has been a key objective for manager Unai Emery, who has sought additional attacking options to complement Ollie Watkins, particularly following the transfer of Donyell Malen to Roma last week.
Turkish club activates purchase clause
Besiktas secured Abraham on loan from Roma last summer, contingent upon meeting specific performance targets for a future transfer. Turkish reports indicate that the Turkish club has triggered their option to purchase him for approximately £12 million, which means Aston Villa will fulfill the required transfer fee.
In an interesting twist, sources in Turkey have mentioned that defender Yasin Ozcan, currently on loan at Anderlecht, may move to Besiktas from Villa as part of this agreement.
Roberto Olabe, Aston Villa’s head of football operations, traveled to Turkey recently to observe Abraham in action during Besiktas’s 1-0 victory over Kayserispor.
Abraham’s football journey
Tammy Abraham transitioned from Chelsea to Roma in August 2021 in a deal worth £34 million, where he became a regular under coach Jose Mourinho.
In his tenure at Roma, he made 120 appearances, playing a significant role in their triumph in the Conference League during the 2021-22 season, netting nine goals across 13 matches.
However, following Mourinho’s dismissal in January 2024, Abraham found his playing time limited, leading to a loan move to AC Milan the subsequent season.
He etched his name in history with a remarkable debut season, scoring 17 league goals, making him the highest-scoring English player in a single Serie A campaign. Only David Platt (31) and Gerry Hitchens (58) have outscored Abraham’s total of 29 goals in Serie A.
Having spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Villa, Abraham scored 25 goals, significantly contributing to the club’s return to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
