Tabakovic Sparks Gladbach's Dominant Victory Over St. Pauli for First Bundesliga Win

Bundesliga Showdown: St. Pauli vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach

Two struggling teams in the Bundesliga faced off today as St. Pauli hosted Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Millerntor-Stadion. Anticipated to be a closely contested match, the Foals dominated their opponents with a convincing 4-0 victory, marking their inaugural win in the league this season.

First Half: Opportunities and Goals

Both teams struggled to create clear chances early on, but Gladbach came close in the 12th minute when Elvedi found Ullrich, whose cross just missed the onrushing Haris Tabakovic in the box.

The visitors took the lead just three minutes later thanks to a costly error by Nikola Vasilj, who misplayed a pass. Florian Neuhaus capitalized on the mistake, setting up Tabakovic to score, slipping the ball past the outstretched hands of the St. Pauli goalkeeper.

St. Pauli responded with several attempts as Wahl, Pereira-Lage, and Sinani tried their best to challenge Moritz Nicolas in goal. Despite Joe Scally’s shot hitting the post, Gladbach extended their lead to 2-0 when Honorat assisted Tabakovic for his second goal before the break.

Second Half: Tactical Changes and Further Goals

Frustrated by his team’s performance, Alexander Blessin made three substitutions in attack, bringing on Ceesay, Hountondji, and Kaars. However, it was Gladbach who continued to threaten, with Vasilj making a spectacular save to deny Tabakovic a third goal.

The 31-year-old forward, filling in for the injured Tim Kleindienst, proved relentless. In the 75th minute, Shuto Machino sealed the match with a powerful shot from just outside the box, assisted by Tabakovic, bringing the score to 3-0.

Closing Minutes: A Final Flourish

As the match approached its conclusion, Gladbach maintained their momentum. Machino’s initial effort was saved by Vasilj, but Oscar Fraulo was quick to follow up, smashing the ball into the net to make it 4-0. With this solid performance, the Foals secured three critical points and celebrated their first league victory of the ongoing Bundesliga season.
