Strasbourg’s President Keller Displeased with Chelsea’s Emegha Signing Amidst Criticism: He Deserved Better

Strasbourg president Keller upset for Chelsea signing Emegha over jeers: He didn't deserve that

Strasbourg President Supports Emegha Amid Fan Criticism

Strasbourg’s president, Marc Keller, has expressed his support for Emanuel Emegha after the captain faced boos from his own supporters last weekend.

Emegha, who has recently committed to joining Chelsea in 2026—a decision announced last week—was targeted with jeers following a match against Le Havre.

Keller’s Defense of Emegha

Keller shared his thoughts with L’Equipe, stating, “When Emmanuel first joined, he was drawing interest from major clubs in England and Germany. Thanks to BlueCo, he found his way to Strasbourg.”

He further elaborated, “After a remarkable second season, we received offers from clubs in Italy, England, and Germany. We convened with the player, his agent, the owners, and myself. Our priority was to retain him due to his abilities as a striker and a leader who uplifts his teammates.”

Keller emphasized Emegha’s commitment, noting that he had rejected ten offers this summer. “I do not want him to be booed; he does not deserve it,” he added.

Updates on Samuels-Smith Transfer

Additionally, Keller discussed the situation regarding Ishe Samuels-Smith, who opted to play for Swansea City instead of joining Strasbourg from Chelsea.

He explained, “Ishe was contracted to Chelsea. We were looking for someone to fit in on the left side or as a left center-back. Initially, I was unfamiliar with him, but our sporting director and Liam (Rosenior) were.”

Keller continued, “After discussing it with the player, his family, and Chelsea, we concluded that immediate playing time might be challenging. Together, we decided that a temporary move would be more beneficial.”

“The transfer was ultimately called off, and no financial exchange took place between Chelsea and Strasbourg. We prioritized the player’s welfare and his opportunity for minutes on the field.”
