Strasbourg Set to Face Nantes

Strasbourg will visit Nantes on Sunday for their 41st match of the season, kicking off at 20:45, amid the challenges of a crowded schedule.

Current Performance

According to reports, Strasbourg stands out as the sole French club still competing across three tournaments. Their form in the Conference League remains impressive, with seven victories and three draws. However, their domestic performance tells a different story, showcasing just one win, four draws, and two losses in their last seven league encounters.

Injury Update

Head coach Gary O’Neil temporarily lost his voice following Thursday’s 1-1 draw against HNK Rijeka, a result that followed a 2-1 win in the first leg, due to a cold. Fortunately, he has since regained his voice, alleviating concerns for the team.

In terms of player availability, Aaron Anselmino, Benjamin Chilwell, Emmanuel Emegha, and Diego Moreira are still sidelined. Many of the club’s high-profile summer signings, including Mathis Amougou, Samuel Amo-Ameyaw, and Rafael Luis, have not met expectations, with the team scoring only three goals in their last four fixtures.

Upcoming Goals

Strasbourg aims to progress to the finals of two significant competitions: the Coupe de France semi-final against Nice on April 22 and the Conference League quarter-finals against Mainz on April 9 and 16. Achieving this will depend on effective squad rotation.

O’Neil acknowledges the challenge of assembling the right lineup, ensuring players recover properly, and mentally preparing for a matchup against a Nantes side fighting for survival.

Challenges Ahead

With the current total of 40 matches played, Strasbourg could potentially face 15 more by the end of the season, which poses a considerable challenge for a relatively young squad. The upcoming international break offers little relief, as Ivorian Martial Godo and Moroccan Samir el-Mourabet are set to receive their first national team call-ups. Joaquin Panichelli, initially overlooked by Lionel Scaloni, has been included in the squad as well, raising hopes of avoiding burnout later in the season.
