Spanish Press Criticizes Trent Alexander
Alexander-Arnold’s Transition to Real Madrid Faces Challenges
Difficulties After Departure from Liverpool
The 27-year-old’s move from Liverpool, the club where he grew up, to Real Madrid has not unfolded as anticipated for anyone involved.
Limited Playing Time
So far this season, Alexander-Arnold has appeared in seven La Liga matches, starting in only five of them. Much of the playing time has been occupied by the seasoned Dani Carvajal.
However, with Carvajal recently suffering from a knee injury, Alexander-Arnold has found himself getting more opportunities on the pitch. Yet, his performance has not met the expectations of the Spanish media.
Team Struggles and Criticism
Real Madrid, under pressure, has been enduring a challenging stretch, with a recent 1-1 draw against Girona marking yet another inability to seize an opportunity.
Amidst the team’s struggles, Alexander-Arnold has attracted significant scrutiny. Spanish journalist Alfredo Relano, writing for MARCA, expressed sharp criticism: “Now that Trent is here, he seems like a clueless and insubstantial player, with the expression of a rabbit in the headlights. His quality at set-pieces is masked by his right foot, but in open play, he is non-existent.”
