SAFA president Danny Jordaan has downplayed the controversy surrounding South Africa’s FIFA sanction, insisting the focus has shifted to future tournaments after Bafana Bafana booked their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
The punishment, a three-point deduction for fielding ineligible midfielder Teboho Mokoena nearly derailed South Africa’s qualification hopes.
The setback saw Hugo Broos’ side slip from top spot in Group C and depend on other results to advance.
The incident has sparked calls for accountability, with team manager Vincent Tseka facing questions over the oversight. But Jordaan says it’s time to move on.
“We are going to the World Cup, so the matter is closed,” he told Newzroom Afrika. “We’re not going to dwell on what’s behind us. What’s ahead is AFCON in Morocco and the World Cup next year.”
South Africa will now turn their attention to the African Cup of Nations in December before heading to North America for football’s biggest stage.
