GFA President Honors Media Support for Football Development
Media Engagement and Appreciation
Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, the President of the Football Association, has praised the Ghanaian media for their steadfast support and constructive involvement in football, highlighting the importance of ongoing collaboration for the advancement of the sport in the nation.
During a vibrant press gathering held on Tuesday evening at the Gold Coast Restaurant in Accra, President Simeon-Okraku expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the media community for their dedication, balanced reporting, and enthusiasm for Ghanaian football.
The evening featured prominent journalists, editors, and broadcasters, along with GFA Vice President Mark Addo and members of the Executive Council, fostering an atmosphere rich in camaraderie and open communication.
Acknowledging Support and Constructive Criticism
“I would like to express my appreciation to each of you for your tremendous support,” President Simeon-Okraku remarked. “I also extend my thanks to those who provide criticism, urging that it be constructive, as your insights contribute to building a stronger football infrastructure. While we have faced numerous challenges, I am optimistic about the bright future of football in Ghana.”
Reflecting on the past year, the GFA President recognized the obstacles encountered in 2024, particularly the Black Stars’ inability to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. However, he underscored the team’s comeback as they progressed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having excelled in their group.
Celebrating Achievements
He also applauded the Black Queens for securing a commendable third-place finish in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and noted the Black Starlets’ qualification for the 2026 Africa U-17 Championship, marking a significant return of the youth team to continental tournaments.
President Simeon-Okraku further acknowledged the advancements in the Ghana Premier League, pointing out improvements in financial stability, television coverage, and fan engagement. He also highlighted the success of youth development initiatives under the “Power to the Youth” program, which continues to nurture promising talents throughout the country.

The President re-emphasized the GFA’s dedication to fostering robust partnerships with the media, recognizing their essential role as a key stakeholder in enhancing transparency, accountability, and progress within Ghanaian football.
“The Football Association will maintain its engagement with the media as a vital partner in the advancement of the game,” he affirmed.
