BVB Fans Protest Match Scheduling with Tennis Balls

A Return to Protest

On the evening of last Friday, fans of Borussia Dortmund once again brought tennis balls into the stands as a form of protest directed at the German Football League. Their dissatisfaction stemmed from the peculiar timing of Borussia’s match schedule.

The Fans’ Message

Displayed on banners, Dortmund supporters proclaimed, “We determine when you play” and “Support Saturday matches at 3:30 PM.” But the question arises: Has BVB indeed had such limited opportunities to play at the Bundesliga’s favored time this season?

Comparing Match Times

In contrast, the fans of FC Heidenheim have every reason to be content, as their team has enjoyed the luxury of scheduling. Out of the eight matches played thus far, FC Heidenheim had the chance to play on Saturday afternoon seven times.

On the other hand, both Mainz 05 and VfB Stuttgart have had four matches kick off at the prestigious time slot of the German top division. Following them is Borussia Dortmund, which has played three times at 3:30 PM on Saturdays. The same record applies to teams like Frankfurt, Union Berlin, Freiburg, HSV, and St. Pauli.
