Sevilla Stages Stunning Second

Betis Fans Turn Out in Numbers for Derby Day Thrills

A day after more than 20,000 supporters gathered for Betis’ initial training session at La Cartuja, a large crowd of fans flocked to the club’s temporary ground, eager to witness the excitement of derby day.

An Electrifying Start

The Betis supporters didn’t have to wait long to celebrate as their star player, Antony, delivered an impressive strike just 16 minutes into the match.

Ez Abde initiated the action with a determined run into the penalty area, ultimately setting up Cucho Hernandez for a close-range effort. Although Hernandez’s shot was blocked, Antony seized the opportunity and executed a spectacular bicycle kick, sending the ball into the net for his seventh goal of the season.

The game saw a more balanced period of play afterward, but just before half-time, Betis engineered a seamless attack to extend their lead.

A Beautiful Team Play

Once again, Abde was pivotal, delivering a skillfully placed pass to reach Alvaro Fidalgo, who then deftly flicked the ball into the net with the outside of his foot. This marked Fidalgo’s first goal since joining from Club America during the winter transfer window.

Trailing by two goals at half-time for the first time in twenty-three years of derby encounters, Sevilla made a determined comeback at the start of the second period. Their efforts were soon rewarded when Alexis Sanchez scored just after the hour mark.

Sevilla’s Resurgence

The experienced forward made a sharp run to connect with Oso’s curling cross, executing a diving header that slipped past goalkeeper Alvaro Valles. This goal rekindled hope among the traveling Sevilla supporters at La Cartuja.

Those fans who remained in their seats after the break witnessed a dramatic equalizer in the 85th minute. Isaac Romero found the ball in a chaotic moment following a free-kick and fired it into the bottom corner, capitalizing on Betis’ failure to clear the danger.

Betis appeared shaken following this equalizer, and Akor Adams nearly clinched a dramatic win at the death, only for his attempt from a tough angle to be cleared off the line.

Match Outcome

Romero’s first goal in the league since October propelled Sevilla to 11th place in the standings, while Betis, led by Manuel Pellegrini, stayed in fifth position, trailing the top four by eight points.
