Senegal is preparing a bold push to host the 2031 Africa Cup of Nations.

On September 25, 2025, Youth and Sports Minister Khady Diène Gaye confirmed plans to create a technical committee for the bid.

She announced the decision during the installation of the new Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) Executive Board.

The government wants to act early after Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania won the 2027 hosting rights.

Gaye urged the FSF to plan immediately and solve challenges before the selection process begins.

She believes strong preparation will help Senegal join the list of major tournament hosts on the continent.

“I ask you and your teams to work now on the bid,” Gaye told officials at Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium.

“We must prepare for every challenge and build a strong proposal.”

She also stressed the need for close cooperation between the state and the federation.

Gaye outlined several priorities for the new FSF leadership under Abdoulaye Fall.

She wants better administrative structures and stronger support for women’s football.

She also demanded improved club support, transparent ticketing systems, and modernized football infrastructure.

The government expects the completion of the Demba Diop Stadium to be a top priority.

The minister promised full financial and technical backing for the federation.

She revealed plans to introduce performance-based contracts in 2026 to improve coordination and accountability.

This system will measure progress and push both the state and FSF to deliver concrete results.

Gaye also praised the previous FSF team led by Augustin Senghor.

She said their achievements, including the Lions’ recent successes, boosted national pride and global respect.

Senegal now aims to build on that momentum.

The government sees AFCON 2031 as a chance to showcase national growth, unite the population, and cement Senegal’s place among Africa’s leading football nations.
