Senegal Cruise Past Guinea-Bissau to Reach U17 AFCON

Senegal booked their place at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations after a dominant 4-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in the WAFU A U17 semifinal on Wednesday at the Mamadou Konaté Stadium in Bamako.

The Lionceaux began cautiously, studying their opponents in the opening minutes. Once they settled, they took full control and broke through the Djurtus’ defense with pace and accuracy.

Senegal earned their first chance from a free kick, forcing goalkeeper Aureliano Martins to tip the ball out for a corner.

From the corner, El Hadj Yamar Ndiaye rose highest and opened the scoring in the 34th minute.

The goal gave Senegal confidence. Just before halftime, Souleymane Commissaire struck again to make it 2-0 and give the Lionceaux control of the match.

Guinea-Bissau tried to respond after the restart. They pressed high and pushed the Senegalese defense, but their efforts lacked precision.

By moving forward, they left spaces behind, and Senegal took advantage. In the 50th minute, Magueye Ndiaye, already involved in the first two goals, added a third to end the contest.

Senegal continued to dominate possession and managed the tempo with maturity.

Guinea-Bissau struggled to find openings and rarely threatened the Senegal goal. The Djurtus fought hard but failed to break through a disciplined defense.

In stoppage time, Mahamet Ba completed the rout. His free kick in the 95th minute found the net, sealing a 4-0 victory and confirming Senegal’s qualification for the upcoming AFCON.

The result reflected Senegal’s strength, focus, and efficiency. The young Lionceaux showed maturity beyond their years and a clear winning mentality.

Their teamwork and discipline underlined why Senegal continues to lead African youth football.
