Schuster Urges Ter Stegen to Seek New Club in January
Concerns Over Ter Stegen’s Position
Former Barcelona player Bernd Schuster has advised Marc-Andre ter Stegen to consider leaving the club this January.
As Ter Stegen recuperates from back surgery, he risks finding himself as the third-choice goalkeeper. Current Barca coach Hansi Flick seems to prefer both Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny over the German shot-stopper.
Schuster’s Insights
From his perspective, Schuster expressed his thoughts in an interview with BILD:
“It’s common knowledge that Barcelona can be unforgiving with players they deem surplus to requirements. If I were in Ter Stegen’s shoes, I would explore the option of transferring to another club in the winter.”
He further added, “Flick has shown clear faith in the new addition, Joan Garcia, and Szczesny as his primary options. I don’t foresee Ter Stegen getting another chance.”
Recommendations for Ter Stegen
Schuster believes Ter Stegen’s next move doesn’t necessarily need to involve a top-tier club. Instead, he suggested that a competitive Bundesliga team, where Ter Stegen can secure regular playing time, would be a suitable choice for him at this stage in his career.
