Sandro Wagner Returns to Hoffenheim
Former TSG 1899 Hoffenheim player Sandro Wagner is set to make a return to his previous club this weekend. Currently with FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga, Wagner will face Hoffenheim during the afternoon matchups. His time at Hoffenheim from 2016 to 2017 played a pivotal role in reviving his career, leading to a transfer back to Bayern Munich and earning him several call-ups to the German national team in his 30s.
Wagner Reflects on His Time at Hoffenheim
During a pre-match press conference, Wagner expressed his fondness for Hoffenheim, stating, “TSG was a very significant part of my life and it’s a fantastic club. From an outsider’s perspective, it may not be apparent, but being involved reveals the exceptional people who work there, from grassroots to Dietmar Hopp. I had the privilege of working alongside many wonderful individuals.”
Acknowledging Influences and Challenges Ahead
Wagner went on to show appreciation for his former experiences, saying, “I owe my move to Bayern to Hopp. I truly see him as an admirable individual. My connection to the club is strong, and I have a great appreciation for it. I must commend what [head coach Christian] Ilzer and [sporting director Andreas] Schicker have achieved; it’s remarkable. This is a strong club, and we anticipate a challenging match on the road.”
