Sandro Tonali Shares Candid Insights on His Future with Newcastle Amidst Serie A Return Speculations

Sandro Tonali Gives Honest Update on Newcastle Future Amid Serie A Return Rumours

Future at Newcastle

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has shared his thoughts regarding his future with the club amid ongoing speculation about a possible return to Italy. The 25-year-old player has consistently been linked to a move back to his home country since his arrival at St. James’ Park, even with the club’s unwavering support.

Recent Challenges

Tonali’s journey with Newcastle faced a significant setback due to a betting controversy, resulting in a ten-month suspension from football. However, he has managed to assert himself as one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League, while still keeping open the possibility of a homecoming.

Remarks on His Future

In a dialogue with The I Paper, Tonali addressed inquiries about his future by stating,

This is a tough question because, you know, in football you need to think year for year.

He was cautious not to overcommit, mentioning,

I don’t want to say I want to stay here 10 years and in two years, three years, four years (or) five years I will go.

Tonali emphasized the need to take things one season at a time, reflecting on the difficult moments from the previous summer for himself and his teammate Alex Isak. He remarked,

If you have an option for your life, for another team you need to think about everything.

Yet, he reassured fans about his current happiness at Newcastle:

I don’t want to say “Yes, I want to stay here 10 years”, but now I’m happy here. I don’t think anything about another team.

Contract Developments

The midfielder also addressed the recent discussions surrounding his contract renewal following the betting scandal. Tonali clarified,

This extension was three years ago after the ban, I don’t know why the last week everybody spoke about it.

He noted that communication with the club and his agent led to an additional year being signed mainly because of the mutual trust established between him and the club:

It was because I have confidence in this team, and this team has confidence in me. So we worked together.
