Rohl Expresses Regret to Rangers Supporters Following Disheartening Defeat

Rohl’s Troubles Begin with Disappointing Rangers Debut

Disheartening Loss to Brann

Danny Rohl’s first match as the manager of Rangers ended in a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Norwegian club Brann in the Europa League. The performance has been criticized as “disgraceful” by team’s captain, James Tavernier.

Rangers faced Brann in Norway on Thursday night, placing them at the bottom of their Europa League group. Unfortunately, the club has yet to secure a single point from their opening three matches, leaving their captain frustrated.

Tavernier’s Harsh Assessment

“It’s a disgraceful performance, and that’s the reality,” Tavernier expressed. “While we can follow instructions from our coaches, it’s crucial to apply that on the field. We were clearly second best in terms of battles for the ball and overall grit. As players for Rangers, we should inherently possess that fighting spirit.”

He lamented the team’s passiveness, saying, “It should be a priority to compete fiercely, even if the game turns messy. Right now, it’s far too straightforward for opponents to play against us. That’s painful to acknowledge.”

Challenges Ahead for Rohl

Rohl, a 36-year-old German coach, took over from Russell Martin just days before the match. The anticipated turnaround in the team’s performance did not materialize, as Rangers continued their struggle throughout the season.

The first goal came from Emil Kornvig just before halftime, granting Brann a deserved lead. Jacob Sorensen further extended the gap at the 55-minute mark, with Noah Holm sealing the match with a third goal in the 79th minute. With this defeat, Rangers will now look to regroup ahead of their upcoming William Hill Premiership match against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Post-Match Reactions

After the match, Rohl approached the Rangers supporters, stating, “I began by apologizing for this defeat and our overall performance. They consistently travel far and support the team.”

He acknowledged the loyalty of the fans, adding, “This club has dedicated supporters, and they deserve better. It’s vital for me to convey my understanding of their feelings. Nonetheless, I assure you that I will commit myself to improving this group of players for better results.”
