Outstanding Performances by St. Pauli and RB Leipzig Players

This past weekend, St. Pauli’s Ricky-Jade Jones and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande set the record for the two highest speeds in the ongoing 2025/26 Bundesliga season. Jones reached an impressive 36.46 km/h (22.66 mph) during his team’s 0-0 stalemate with Hamburger SV on Friday night. Diomande closely followed with a speed of 36.40 km/h (22.61 mph) in Leipzig’s 3-0 victory over Heidenheim on Saturday.

World Record Holder and Historical Context

The 23-year-old English forward, Ricky-Jade Jones, is currently the fastest footballer ever recorded, having been clocked at 37.6 km/h (23.36 mph) while playing for Peterborough United in the English third division in 2024. Additionally, the record for the fastest speed in Bundesliga history is still held by Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jean-Matteo Bahoya, who was measured at 37.16 km/h (23.09 mph) last season.

Previous Records in the 2024/25 Bundesliga Campaign

The 2024/25 Bundesliga season showcased numerous speed records. Heidenheim’s Sirlord Conteh earned the title of the quickest professional in Bundesliga history on two occasions. Other players such as Gerrit Holtmann from Bochum and Loïs Openda of RB Leipzig also topped speed charts alongside Bahoya. However, both Holtmann and Openda are not participating in this season’s league.

Teammates Outpacing Bahoya

In a surprising turn, Bahoya has now been surpassed by two fellow teammates from Eintracht: Ansgar Knauff and Nathaniel Brown. Among a group of other notable speedy players, including Justin Njinmah (Werder Bremen), Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund), Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen), and Bazoumana Touré, none have yet reached the record-breaking speeds established.

New Talents Joining the Elite Speed Rankings

In addition to Diomande and Jones, the recently signed Adam Daghim from Wolfsburg has joined this elite group, clocked at a speed of 35.79 km/h (22.24 mph), making him the only new entry in this year’s top 10 speedsters.
